Laura Kepner lives and writes in Safety Harbor. She teaches writing through the Safety Harbor Art & Music Center, the city, and online. She is passionate about local history and uplifting our collective culture through education and the arts. Laura was editor-in-chief of Odeta Florida-based literary journal that ran for four years, ending in 2020. She is co-author of A Brief History of Safety Harbor, Florida (History Press, 2013), When Lourdes Was Big (Chapter Two Press, 2021) and is currently working on a second history book through Arcadia Publishing, scheduled to be released in 2022. She is on the board of the Safety Harbor Museum & Cultural Center and serves as secretary for the Whispering Souls African American Cemetery board. She is founder of Safety Harbor Writers & poets which meets at the Safety Harbor Art and Music Center. Her dogs, Oscar Wilde and Idgie Threadgoode, keep her moving and laughing.
