Yasir Nieves was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, and he began drawing at an early age. He develops freehand drawings in ink, pencil, and charcoal. After mastering the skills of pencil drawing, charcoal drawing, and engraving, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts (Painting) from the Rio Piedras Campus in PR.
After obtaining his degree, he was accepted at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain, where he earned his Master’s in Theory and Practice of Contemporary Plastic Arts. This experience presented the opportunity to be part of the critics and curators’ group for the student’s exhibition at the end of the Master’s Degree. He created over forty pieces of art, was counselor to several artists, designed the student’s exhibition and completed large format paintings. These were published in the Master’s Degree annual catalog with good reviews from several professors and art professionals.
Nieves has lived in Orlando, Chicago and Nashville, where he continued his involvement with arts. In 2015, he was selected to be curator of “La Diaspora” Now known as Keepers of Heritage. Since then he has been immersed in the process of selecting the artworks to be featured in each presentation. Nieves artwork have been published in several magazines and catalogs alongside Museums and Galleries across the nation and overseas. Some which include National Museum PR Art, Albin Polasek Museum, Appleton Museum or the Orlando City Hall. His knowledge has been crucial in taking “KOH” to its achieved success.
