Born May 9, 1982 and raised in Humboldt Park, Chicago by Puerto Rican and Dominican parents, non-binary mural artist Tania Torres pulls from the memories of their upbringing in the city, the ties to their Taino roots, as well as their love for patterns, symmetry and bold lines and colors as a framework for creating safe spaces for those who society files under: “other” Tania’s biggest influences are Jean-Michel Basquiat, Yayoi Kusama, Wassily Kandinsky, Georgia O’Keefe, Mark Rothko, Chuck Close and Frida Kahlo to name a few. While they have always worked at developing their voice as an artist since grade school, Tania has worked professionally as an artist since 2019. Having certified their business that same year, T Squared Art House was the launching pad for styles ranging from hyper-realism in graphite to street art in acrylics.
