Continuing the rough-in of Alexandra

Continuing the rough-in of Alexandra

Thank you for tuning in to see the progress on my large Not #MeToo paiting! It is tiring working on such a large piece — more tiring than working on a more comfortable easel-sized image, that’s for sure!

I am making visible progress on painting the figure of Alexandra, the ballerina shrinking from Harvey Weinstein’s advances on the left side of my canvas.

I started doing some work on the couch where Alexandra is sitting and also added some of the black-brown background around the figures, so the color will be right when the piece is completed. Just having the light wash of burnt umber was not sufficient any more at this stage of the rough-in.

Alexandra’s tutu is turning out to be one of the most difficult aspects of this painting so far! Since the material is diaphanous, it is not so easy to convey the look of the fine mesh netting of the tulle, versus Alexandra’s legs beneath the skirt.

Here is a detail of the tutu above.

This is a detail of the couch and cushion.

I got a lot done, yay! Until next time, thanks for tuning in,
