The Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg (MFA), is the cultural heart of our community. Founded in 1965 by art collector and philanthropist Margaret Acheson Stuart, the MFA realizes her vision of offering world-class art in an inviting, local setting.
Our campus has evolved from the original structure to include the signature two-story glass Mary Alice McClendon Conservatory, connecting the original building to our Hazel Hough Wing. These investments have created a “third space” that welcomes the community into our home.
As the city’s first art museum, we anchor a vibrant arts destination, uniting artists, residents, and international visitors. Our mission is to engage, educate, and excite diverse communities by collecting, exhibiting, and preserving art for all.
We leverage our global collection, spanning nearly 5,000 years of art history, as a catalyst for connection and conversation—serving as steward of the past and gateway to the future. The MFA showcases diverse artists and histories through a humanistic, accessible, community-centric approach. We contextualize the canon, connect past to present, and amplify voices across all disciplines. Our goal is to inspire belonging for over 100,000 annual visitors, cultivating an environment where all can explore untold stories and challenge conventions.
