Sixth Annual Exhibition Showcases the Art of Veterans

This past weekend, the nation honored its military veterans, the men and women who have served this country in the United States Armed Forces, through Veterans Day observances. This year’s observances were especially meaningful in light of the holiday coinciding with the 100-year anniversary of the Armistice with Germany that would bring World War I to a close. However, honoring America’s veterans needn’t be limited to the Veteran’s Day holiday or it’s observances.

One way to honor veterans this week is to attend the Star Spangled Art Exhibit at St. Petersburg College’s Tarpon Springs campus. Now in it’s sixth year, this annual event showcases artwork in a variety of media and disciplines created by veterans and wounded heroes. While some of the artists draw on their experiences serving our country, the work in the exhibition spans a variety of styles and subject matter.

In addition to the host, St. Petersburg College’s Tarpon Springs Campus, the event is sponsored by the organizations Operation Helping Hand and the Military Officers Association of America. The exhibition opens to a reception with refreshments on Saturday, November 17 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the St. Petersburg College Tarpon Campus Fine Arts Building, room FA132. The art will be on display through December 10th.
