Returning Soon! – “The Spirit of This Plot of Earth”

I’m baaack! We’re back, me and the Spirit of This Plot of Earth- a Large-scale, Historical Mural, at the newly renovated Cultural Center (previous City Hall) in the City of Tarpon Springs, Florida.

All was ready to begin until it wasn’t. In a state of lockdown, I promptly left this work in a state of suspended animation, story ready to unfold on Covid Shutdown Eve.

Masked up with gloves at 6am, I got extra paints and brushes at Lowes and returned one last time to the site to do a final set up. Draping my painting apron from Graduate School across at table, I said an emotional goodbye to this project and to a lot of things, not knowing if I would ever return, if my town would come back from the brink, let alone, family, friends, loved ones…

In the event that I would never return, I left the work for another to complete.

Dramatic outlook much?  Perhaps, but how scared have you been? Fill in the blanks.

I’m happy to say, that I’m now back, Elvis is in the building, safely locked in by gracious City staff in the morning, and then locked out when I leave at the end of the day. The History of this Plot of Earth continues

I originally created work on an outside wall in downtown Tarpon Springs in the late 1970’s. I was officially Artist in Residence for my City of Tarpon Springs, Florida via a National Endowment Grant, awarded to further enhance and define the unique culture of Tarpon Springs for the bi-centennial. Now, housed and protected in a sacred, historical and loved building, The History of this Plot of Earth makes its return, refreshed and updated, protagonists more power packed than ever before…  I take that as a good sign
