Emerging Artist Exhibition Premieres Exciting New Work, Performances

On the evening of October 26, Creative Pinellas premieres an exciting new exhibition. Featuring new artwork across five disciplines, the äóìEmerging Artist New Work Exhibitionäó highlights creative potential of its 2017 Impact Returns Emerging Artist Grantees.

Earlier this year 10 artists–Gloria Muí±oz, Kellie Harmon, Mark Feinman, Desireí© Moore, Nathan Beard, Jacob Troyli, Shannon Leah Halvorsen, Kenny Jensen, Elizabeth Barenis, and Jeff Georgeäóîwere selected as the Emerging Artist Grant programäó»s first group of grantees. With the purpose of setting the stage for each granteeäó»s success in part by providing funding, each grantee was awarded $2,000. What made the grant program especially notable, however is the mentors program.

Over the course of the grants period artists were appointed a mentor, a mature arts figure who works in a relevant field of interest and has earned a measure of success. For example, painter Jacob Troyli was mentored by well-known artist Ya Laäó»Ford and artist Desireí© Moore was paired with Museum of Fine Arts curator Katherine Pill. The grantees created new work during their respective mentorships and documented the process in respective blogs on www.impactreturns.com.

The mentorship program culminates in the äóìEmerging Artist New Work Exhibitionäó wherein this new work is debuted in a museum-calibre to audiences from throughout Pinellas County and far beyond. The evening will feature live performances by Mark Feinman and Kellie Harmon; video performances of work by Gloria Muí±oz and Jeff George; installations by Desireí© Moore and Kenny Jensen; scratchboard artwork by Shannon Leah Halvorsen; and paintings by Nathan Beard, Elizabeth Barenis and Jacob Troyli.
