The 18-member Helios Jazz Orchestra, directed by Dr. David Manson, backs California jazz vocalist Scotty Wright in a big band performance at the intimate Side Door. Scotty is a veteran musician with a warm, rich voice, tremendous range and relaxed delivery – a unique sound that’s deeply rooted in the jazz tradition. A gifted singer, pianist, actor, teacher and author, Scotty has performed in over 20 countries in his 40 year career, including China, Thailand, Japan, Dubai and Jordan.

The program features great jazz gems like “One for Daddy-O” by Nat Adderley, “What Is This Thing Called Love” by Cole Porter and the premiere of a new jazz composition by David Manson.

True Stories’ themed storytelling evening is honoring September 11 with the theme of service.

The featured storyteller is John Huls, actor and much-beloved American Stage improv teacher.

Anyone who’d like to share a story is invited to sign up for a chance to speak onstage. “Come, tell us all about that job volunteering at a shelter, your work as a firefighter or waiting tables. We don’t know, until you tell us. . .”
