The Mackle Shaw Duo is comprised of harpist Anna Kate Mackle and percussionist John Shaw. Champions of new music, the Mackle Shaw Duo have made it their mission to commission and perform chamber music for harp and percussion, and since 2018 have commissioned works from such composers as Mattea Williams, Michael Ippolito, Nathan Daughtrey, Daniel Black, and The Honourable Elizabeth A. Baker. They are recipients of a Professional Artist Grant from Creative Pinellas (2023), an Individual Artist Grant from the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance (2021), and were selected to be members of the Palladium Theater’s Creative Class for 2022-2023. In 2022 they received Honorable Mention in the Ernst Bacon Memorial Award for the Performance of American Music from The American Prize for their performance of their first commission collaboration, Nathan Daughtrey’s Labyrinth of Light. That same year they were also semi-finalists in The American Prize’s Virtual Performance category for their performance of Kevin Fox’s Lily Lake Road for steel pan and harp. Mackle has performed as principal harpist of The Florida Orchestra in the Dick and Helen Minck Chair since 1999, and Shaw has performed as principal percussionist of The Florida Orchestra in the Dick and Helen Minck Chair since 1996. They both also teach privately as well as at St. Petersburg College and Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina.
