George Retkes is a Hungarian-American sculptor based in St. Petersburg, Florida. He attended the Pinellas County Center for the Arts at Gibbs High School majoring in Visual Arts and graduating in 2006 with honors. Afterwards George promptly relocated to Sarasota where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ringling College of Art and Design in 2010 with a focus on metal sculpture and metal casting. Following his time at Ringling, George moved back to St. Petersburg and worked in residential construction. While having a hand in all phases of the planning and execution of high-end residential renovations and new construction, he continued to create personal work and exhibit in group shows in the greater Tampa Bay area. In November of 2014 George began to work with Mark Aeling of MGA Sculpture Studio – engaging in the design, fabrication, and installation of sculptural objects in a variety of mediums. To this day George maintains a full-time position as shop manager and lead fabricator at MGA. Together with his partner Laura Spencer, he continues to seek out new opportunities to engage in creative projects of any caliber through the newly formed ARTONOMY, LLC.
