Call to Artists

Are you a Pinellas County Artist looking to beautify the community? Creative Pinellas and the City of South Pasadena, Florida are excited to accept artist applications for a new mural project in the City of South Pasadena, Florida.

Three local artists will be selected to create murals that bring color and vibrancy to the community of South Pasadena by developing captivating spaces that uplift and showcase the unique essence of South Pasadena while enhancing the commercial corridor’s aesthetic appeal.

The goal will be for people to slow down, see amazing murals, and view what South Pasadena has to offer to locals and tourists alike while also giving residents and local businesses pride in their city.

This project will take place on South Pasadena Ave and will include 6-8 Murals along the business corridor. The program will have 2 cycles of applications. Applications for the first cycle open July 11, 2023, with murals completed on or around November 13, 2023. Applications for the second cycle will open in November with additional details to be provided after selection of the first cycle.

Artists must be a Pinellas County Resident or have strong community ties to Pinellas County.

Art Goals

The South Pasadena Mural Project is a collaborative initiative designed to create visually appealing spaces that inspire, captivate, and showcase the distinctive qualities that make South Pasadena special while enhancing the aesthetics of the commercial corridor. The objective is to encourage people to pause, admire remarkable murals, and discover what South Pasadena has to offer both residents and visitors, instilling a sense of pride in the local community and businesses.

Call To Artists Important Dates:

First Cycle:

  • Call for Entries Open: July 11, 2023
  • Artist Info session: July 20, 2023, 6:30-7:30pm (Via Zoom)
  • Call for Entries Close: Tuesday, Aug 15, 2023
  • Panel: September 5, 2023
    Selected Artists will be tentatively notified by September 8, 2023 (Depending on City Commission meeting)
  • Artist/ Partner Meetings: within 1 week of selection date
  • Three Mural Design Mock-Ups must be submitted: September 29, 2023
  • Artist resubmits Final Design: October 6, 2023
  • Approved no later than: October 13, 2023
  • Possible Painting start date: October 16, 2023
  • Walkthrough and completion date: No later than November 13-30, 2023
  • Touch Ups (if needed): 3 days to complete touch-ups after walk-through.
