American Stage’s annual 21st Century New Voices play festival will be performed online this year, and focused on plays exploring themes of mental illness, wellness and resilience.

The festival will host four play readings over two weekends, each featuring a post-show discussion with the playwright and a mental health clinician.

Workshops supporting mental health and wellbeing will take place both weekends. Post-show discussions will include mental health professionals guiding discussions, answering questions and opening up a dialogue among audiences and artists. The festival will also feature a Community Conversation addressing issues surrounding mental health and our community.

Featured playwrights include the multiple award-winning Arlene Hutton, rising star Cris Eli Blak, Meghan Maugeri and Amber Palmer, exploring topics that range from depression and grief to PTSD and dementia.
