Developing my first show in the community: Honor Our Lives

While on tour I got the great news that I had been chosen as one of the 2018 Emerging Artist Grant recipients and lost my mind. I was thrilled to be given an opportunity to final present my work on a higher platform. I decided to use this opportunity to present a show that was relevant to some of the social injustices we are currently facing. Honor Our Lives is an evening length production highlighting black excellence and paying homage to some of the great African American artist who have paved the way for an artist like me. I decided to break up the show into five sections:

1.Black, Melanated, and Highly Sophisticated

2. Because of Her I am She (Black Girls Rock)

3. An Ode to My Mother

4. Paying Homage to My Father

5. Praying For A Change

Each section are used to not only shed light on some of the constant issues that are covered up in our society but were also used as an educational for of exploration. I am the artistic director of the Kali Kali Dance Company who will be performing this production June 30th, 2018. This project gives each child a chance to learn about their culture and history. This gives them a chance to broaden their minds and honestly know the truth about their lineage.
