Creative Ventures…One Day at a Time – Chapter 5: Inspiration

Whenever I travel, I check out local galleries and museums for inspiration and new ideas. Last year I had the opportunity to visit Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Emanuel College, and Newbury Street galleries in Boston, The Art Institute of Chicago and The Contemporary Art Museum of Chicago, and Florida State University Museum of Fine Art in Tallahassee, among others. Even a visit to South Lake Tahoe in California led me to the Baldwin Estate that hosts an artist residency with stunning lakefront views!

I regularly visit Atlanta, and most recently was inspired by the latest exhibition by Bob Landstrom at Alan Avery Art Company, my favorite gallery on Miami Circle in Buckhead. Other galleries I visited on Miami Circle were Thomas Deans Fine Art and Anne Irwin Fine Art; usually I visit the Atlanta Contemporary Art Museum as well, but they were closed for the Holidays. The High Museum in Atlanta also houses a stimulating Contemporary Art collection!  (Can you tell I love Contemporary Art?) During this recent visit, I also enjoyed some incredible performance art on New Year’s Eve at the warehouse event space Mammal Gallery.

On the home front, I am always inspired by the exhibitions at the USF Contemporary Art Museum, and regularly check out new exhibitions at the St. Petersburg based museums and the Tampa Museum of Art. Additionally, documentary films we show monthly at my studio location in Pinellas Park feature a wide variety of artists and genres, feed my creative appetite, and provide me with new perspectives and ideas.
