Creative Pinellas is pleased to announce the 2017 Emerging Artist Exhibition of New Work open to the public on Friday, October 27 (noon–6 p.m.) and Saturday, October 28 (noon–6 p.m.) with a reception for artists and the arts community Thursday evening, October 26 (6–9 p.m.). This exhibition will be held in the gallery next to the new home of Creative Pinellas at the former Gulf Coast Museum of art, at 12211 Walsingham Road in Largo. The exhibition features new work from the ten 2017 Emerging Artist grantees representing five disciplines: Gloria Muñoz, Literature/Poetry; Kellie Hanson, Choreography; Mark Feinman, Music Composition/Jazz; Desireé Moore and Jeff George, Media Arts/Film-Video; and Nathan Beard, Jacob Troyli, Kenny Jensen, Shannon Leah Halvorsen and Elizabeth Barenis, Visual Arts. The public is invited to see the work of these talented and diverse emerging artists at an exciting and pivotal time as they gain momentum in their careers.

“Shown together, these works offer a peek into the present mindset and expression of our emerging artists and future of the Tampa Bay area arts scene and beyond,” said Engagement Director Elizabeth Brincklow, who is coordinating the exhibition. “This exhibition juxtaposes the various and intricate styles of five visual artists’ two-dimensional works, two finely-honed writing genres and a media arts piece, while also emphasizing the dynamic power of the performing arts through site-specific jazz music composition and choreographed work for solo dancers. Together within the gallery space the totality of the new works create torque, meaningful tension and unabashed beauty,” she adds.

Throughout the Emerging Artist Grant program, Creative Pinellas has offered each recipient the opportunity to develop new work, and to engage with a mentor in their chosen discipline. The overall program is intended to springboard its recipients to the next level of their careers.

Detailed descriptions of the emerging artists are available here. Additionally, the artists have been blogging at ImpactReturns.org where they have written about their progress and activities throughout the granting period, which ends November 10, 2017.
