Arts In – Christina Bertsos

Christina Bertsos
Sculptor

Christina Bertsos shares her passion for sculpting in stone and marble with host Barbara St. Clair, and how her work with fabric and hand-crafted couture influences her creations now.

She guides us through the physical and tactile craft of sculpting, explains how you find marble in Florida, and how she got started in stone through a class at the Dunedin Fine Art Center. She shares the joy of watching people defy gallery rules to touch her sculptures, and encourages women to take up this artform.

You can listen to this lively conversation, and download the transcript. You’ll find photos below illustrating the stone carving process – from wrestling raw blocks of stone off a truck and using tools that stonecarvers have used for centuries, to finishing a graceful piece you can’t help wanting to touch.
