A Petrified Forest

A Petrified Forest

The trunks and branches bare no leaves

The trees still made sound

The wicked wind from the West huffed and puffed

The roots held tight to the ground

The heart of the forest steadily beat

No shade in this hell and still life remained

The resin boiled over with the sun’s steady heat

No water in this well so count on the change

I went for a hike on Mt Adams in Washington. We didn’t summit but we did see a lot of trees damaged by forest fire. It was a beautiful bitter sweet sight.
