As far back as she can remember, Maggie Duffy has been passionate about the arts. Exposure at an early age to museums and galleries in Chicago and Palm Beach stoked an appreciation of visual arts. Inspiration came from the professional adult dancers at the ballet school she attended in South Florida. The opportunity to perform in children’s theater in Tallahassee satisfied her theatrical nature.
A fateful humanities class at St. Petersburg College gave Maggie the direction she needed to figure out her path. She earned a bachelor’s degree in art history from the University of South Florida in 2004 and traveled abroad with the school, seeing all the greatest art Paris and London have to offer.
Maggie got the opportunity to work in the arts in 2009 at fine craft gallery Florida CraftArt. She became the gallery manager, working with 300 Florida artists and curating the gallery. In the meantime, she was working as a part time editorial assistant at the Tampa Bay Times, which would eventually propel her career in another direction.
In 2017, Maggie started covering visual art for the Tampa Bay Times. In a full circle moment, her first review was of an exhibition at Florida CraftArt. By 2019, she was the full time arts writer for the Times, adding theater and performing arts to her beat.
After leaving the Times in 2024, Maggie continued her arts coverage through The Gabber Newspaper. In 2025, she became the arts editor for Bay Magazine with a monthly column showcasing what’s new in the Tampa Bay art scene.
Maggie now brings her passion and deep knowledge of the arts scene to her role as Managing Editor of Creative Pinellas’ digital magazine. She leads editorial direction and content development for the digital magazine and other storytelling initiatives. In this role, Maggie helps spotlight the vibrant arts and artistic experiences that make Pinellas County a top destination for cultural tourism, connecting both residents and visitors to the creative spirit of the region.
She is living out her dream of working in the arts.
