SHINE St. Petersburg No. 4 | Intercontinental and Local

Get ready for average walls to transform in front of you, courtesy of  both international and local artists.

Returning for its fourth year, the SHINE St. Petersburg Mural Festival, a celebration of street art, is striking a balance between high-profile acclaim and supporting locals, showcasing new works by diverse artists hailing from Tampa Bay, the U.S., and across the globe.

Thanks to the nature of wall art, SHINE patrons will get to explore their city while venturing between the seventeen new works, merging community with creativity.

Some of this year’s international artists include:

Artwork by DAAS

Noman Clad, England. A collaboration between Joy Gilleard and Hailey Garner, Noman Clad makes dark yet playful murals that often highlight geography-based socio-economic issues.
LOOK the Weird, Germany. The founding member of renowned graffiti crew The Weird is LOOK, aka Lars Wunderlich, who creates diverse, hyper-detailed graffiti style characters.
DAAS, Japan. DAAS is a Japan based Florida artist who uses geometric lines and angles to create bold images of humans and animals reminiscent of origami folds.
Haider Ali, Pakistan. Haider Ali works in the distinct style of truck art, a popular form of regional decoration in South Asia, featuring bright floral and calligraphy on various vehicles.
Belin, Spain. Self-taught painter Miguel Ángel Belinchón Bujes is well known for his Postneocubism style- you might recognize his work if you’re familiar with Dockers, Sephora, or Kat Von D’s High Voltage Tattoo.

In addition to new works of art, there are a handful of community events worth stopping by: A shared bike tour, taking you on a relaxed, guided tour of both new and previous SHINE artworks on Oct. 6 and 13.

The “You Are Beautiful” Community Mural, in which participants are encouraged to paint positive messages on the shared mural on Oct. 6, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.;
The REVEAL semi-annual showcase, which aims to highlight street art and its history while keeping a spotlight on St. Pete’s unique artists and businesses. There will also be DJs, live music, and drinks, all happening on Oct. 12 from 5 p.m. to midnight.

The SHINE Finale Reception will be held at the Morean Arts Center on Oct. 13 from 5-9 p.m. and will be open to the public for longer, Oct. 8-27.
