Yayoi Kusama Coming to
The Tampa Museum of Art

If you haven’t had the chance to see Yayoi Kusama’s work since its been on tour, you’re very much in luck—in September, you’ll have the opportunity to see her installation “LOVE IS CALLING” at the Tampa Museum of Art.
For the unenlightened, Kusama is a Japanese artist who has been making work for over half a century. She is most well known for her infinity rooms, in which she creates “dots of the universe.” Most of the rooms are filled with dots in varying patterns and color schemes which are echoed by mirrors, making the rooms feel like they stretch on for, well, infinity. Her particular work “LOVE IS CALLING” features multi-colored neon tentacles marked with the artist’s signature dots; the protrusions of light in an otherwise dark room while a recitation of a Japanese love poem read by Kusama floats through the air.
Museum Members are invited to join the museum for a preview of the work on September 26th from 6-9 p.m. There will be a cash bar and light snacks provided, with remarks at 6:45 p.m. by Executive Director Dr. Michael Tomor. Interested members can RSVP by September 17th to membership@tampamuseum.org or by calling 813.421.6633.
“LOVE IS CALLING” will be on view from September 28th 2018 through February 14th 2019.
