Shadows

Well it is down to the wire here in my studio! The final firing went great and I have moved on to creating the shadow plinths the pieces will stand on. Here is how I go about making the plinths.

First I take the sculpture and place it on a piece of 0.5″ MDF board. I like MDF board because there is no grain to it, and it is easy to work with.

Next I set up a small spot light above the piece to create a heavy shadow.

I then trace the shadow and the foot print of the piece and cut it out using a jig saw.

After that comes the sanding and painting of the plinth. I like to bevel the underside of the plinth so it isn’t so square where it meets the pedestal or table.

So much to do and so little time! Stay safe everyone!
