It’s time to start painting this big piece!

Now that I have my design transferred to the large 7-foot by 14-foot pre-primed canvas, it’s time to put down the first layer of paint! This part is really fun, because there are such dramatic changes in a short time period:

I am starting out by roughing-in the face of my model Alexandra. As you can see, I have 8″ x 10″ photos of the pose taped to the canvas so I can check and make sure that I get the details just right. The better and more accurate the rough-in is, the more easy it will be to finish the figure. You can see the burnt umber figure of Harvey Weinstein on the right side of the photograph.

What you might not have known is that I have favorite painting shoes: my Spongebob Squarepants slippers that were a gift from our son!

In the above photo, you can also see my tabouret with my glass painting palette, my Golden Open acrylic paints, various brushes, Golden Open painting medium, and my water container, which tends to be some kind of Cool Whip container.

Three days later, I have gotten this far with Alexandra’s head:

I feel encouraged, because it is already starting to resemble my model! I am hopeful that this painting will turn out well!

Stay tuned for updates on this Not #MeToo painting. Also, if you can think of an even better name for the piece, please comment on that on my Facebook page here: Kevin Grass, artist, business Facebook page.
