HCC Gallery 3 – August 29-September 19

Opening Reception Thursday, August 29 – 5-8 p.m.
Panel discussion at 6 p.m.

Creative Pinellas 2017 Emerging Artist Fellow Kenny Jensen is opening a new solo exhibit.

A Pinellas County native who spent much of his childhood outdoors, artist Kenny Jensen maintains a deep connection to Florida’s unique natural environment.

Jensen actively collects, categorizes and re-contextualizes found organic objects and phenomena, which in turn serve as inspiration or raw material for sculptures, installations, paintings, photographs and videos.

His exhibition, Although I am not you, I am not other than you either contemplates current social issues like tribalism, xenophobia and climate change apathy/denial by drawing comparisons between human behavior and natural processes found in insect and plant life.

Community DNA
by Catherine Woods

Public Dedication Ceremony
Thursday, August 29
10:30-11 am
1301 1st Ave N, St. Petersburg

Creative Pinellas 2018 Professional Artist Fellow Catherine Woods’ brand new Community DNA sculpture will receive a formal dedication this Thursday. Everyone is welcome.

The piece was installed last week outside the new St. Pete Police Station. “The sculpture is an abstracted guardian figure – a protector of the community,” Catherine explains.

She took photographs honoring the diversity of St. Petersburg’s community and incorporated the images into abstract collages painted onto glass and pierced into stainless steel.

“The artwork is a celebration of community and a reflection of the St. Petersburg Police Department’s values of honesty, integrity and honor.”

Observant viewers will enjoy recognizing popular buildings and locations.
