Artist Statement
My art is an exploration of the disconnect between human desires and the laws of nature. Operating under the assumption that humans are the paramount species, we persistently attempt to control nature to suit our preferences. Drawing inspiration from the symbolic language of Dutch Golden Age still life paintings, my work aims to expose the consequences of our relentless pursuit of comfort within capitalist systems.
By juxtaposing the visual allure of the Golden Age with contemporary environmental concerns, my work prompts a reevaluation of our priorities. It serves as a visual narrative, urging us to reconsider the true significance of our choices and the impact they have on the delicate balance of our shared ecosystem. Through this series, I aspire to foster a dialogue about the urgency of embracing a more harmonious relationship with the natural world, recognizing that our collective well-being is intricately intertwined with the well-being of the planet we call home.
