Things are poppin’
When I agreed to do a weekly blog post as a Creative Pinellas grantee this year, I didn’t expect to have so many local shows running concurrently that I would need to promote. But as it happens, I‘m happy to say that I do! So, if you’ll bear with me, I’d like to add one more to the list that launches this weekend in an unexpected venue.
MOSI is Tampa’s Museum of Science & Industry, a scientific playground with more than 100 hands-on activities for all ages. And it just so happens to have a talented artist-in-residence—fellow Pop Artist, Michael Knapp. Mike and I share a few stylistic tendencies and techniques in our work, and have been trading notes on our approach to painting lately. He graciously invited me to join him in sharing our work in Fresh Popped, a Group Exhibition showcased within the museum, opening February 1st. I paid Mike a visit at his studio space this week and dropped off five affordable canvas prints for the show. This ought to be fun! If you’re in the Tampa area, be sure to check it out.

Seeing double
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out to attend my Artist Talk + Tour reception for my solo show, Double Vision at TECO Public Art Gallery last week! It was a wonderful opportunity to share my background and the artistic influences, work process, stylistic preferences, and goals associated with my work. In addition to creating paintings that are visually appealing, I always strive to engage the viewers’ minds, as well as their eyes. Each piece is intended to catch the viewer off-guard, invite them in for further exploration, and challenge them to make connections, find meaning, and ultimately see differently some aspect of the world in which we live.
The Artist Talk was a chance to engage with the viewers personally as well, and the curious questions and positive feedback I received were especially rewarding. Below are a few photos from the event, as well as details on the ongoing exhibition. In case you missed the reception, please feel free to stop by and check out the show any time on weekdays during business hours!
