Have you fallen in love with a painting yet? How about a glitzy piece of jewelry? The Dunedin Fine Art Center’s virtual art garage sale, Trashy Treasures, ends on March 28 but there is still time to become a part of this wildly fun experience.

“We rolled out an assortment of over one hundred paintings, collectibles, jewelry pieces, home design and art supplies, every week for Trashy Treasures 2021’s March Madness Covid version,” says Catherine Bergmann, DFAC’s Curatorial Director. “All of the passionate and devoted Trashy Treasures fans from over the years showed up!”

In years past, Trashy Treasures has been a live fundraiser with supporters donating artworks, art supplies and more. Patrons dressed in costumes and “trashy” attire. Not wanting to cancel this beloved annual event, the show’s organizers made it all virtual this year by photographing, measuring, describing and categorizing over 500 items for their new online auction platform.

“Some of the more intense bidding battles included a ten-drawer flat file, a Clyde Butcher photograph, a 1926 Charles Turzak woodblock of Abraham Lincoln – and novelty items including a vintage ceramic elephant pitcher, an owl cookie jar, a Pee-Wee Herman doll, and my favorite, a ceramic Tiki god — Easter Island style,” Bergmann says.

Since there were so many pieces to choose from and a great deal of planning, Bergmann credits Gail Gamble with not only the smooth transition from a live event to a virtual one, but also the huge success of this year’s event. There were so many donations that they decided to divide the items into four separate weekly auctions, with new treasures every week. “Gail has been involved in every Trashy Treasures over the past decade. She was the queen and mastermind.”

To get in on the action, virtually hurry over to DFAC’s website to see all of this week’s treasures. It is easy to register and bid on the items and there are pictures and descriptions of them all so you can browse before bidding.

Bidding will end on Sunday evening, March 28, at 11:55 pm. You can pick up your new treasure at DFAC from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday.

Just be warned, I have a favorite item, too, so you’ll have to outbid me!
