The Dalí Museum celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with programs for all ages inspired by Hispanic culture – including talks, tours, dance lessons, music and bilingual children’s books – and many events for Spanish speakers.

Surreal Conversations en Español

Participants of all language levels will get the opportunity to engage with art and each other in Spanish through a series of oral and written facilitated activities in a supportive and inclusive environment.

The focus will be on responding to and describing what we are seeing – and then digging into what the deeper meanings behind the pieces might be, fostering meaningful connections while deepening your appreciation for the universal language of art.

The Cuban Sandwich: A History in Layers

A special talk on one of the most delectable bites of food history – the Cuban sandwich.  Authors Andrew Huse, Bárbara Cruz, and Jeff Houck explore how the Cuban sandwich became a symbol for a displaced people, won the hearts and bellies of America, and claimed a spot on menus around the world in their recent book, The Cuban Sandwich: A History in Layers.

The lecture will include a special Cuban Sandwich tasting with Chef Chuck Bandel of the Dali’s Café Gala.

An exciting Salsa workshop presented by the Fred Astaire Dance Studio – South Tampa. You can learn the fundamental steps of this vibrant dance style while delving into its rich cultural history.

Hispanic Heritage with Orilla

Paying tribute to the rich Hispanic musical heritage, this live musical performance by Orilla, the duo of singer Ona Kirei and bassist Alejandro Arena, will feature classic and contemporary Spanish songs including coplas, boleros, cumbias, tangos and more.

An exciting Merengue workshop presented by the talented instructors from Fred Astaire Dance Studio – South Tampa. Discover the lively rhythms of Merengue, a dance style deeply embedded in Hispanic culture.
