Set and Setting Album Release–Friday January 27
Set and Setting are Tampa Bayäó»s answer to expansive instrumental post-rock acts like Explosions in the Sky and Godspeed You Black Emperor, with a metal-inspired heaviness that smacks of Deafheaven. Theyäó»re really good, theyäó»re consistently productive, and theyäó»re starting to generate notice well beyond Florida äóñ so get out and check these local boys on the verge of making very good.

St. Pete Zine Fest 5–Saturday, January 28
Tampa Bay has more than kept pace with the national resurgence of interest in äóÖzines äóñ hand-made booklets of unique art and writing äóñ with several concurrent Zine Fests on both sides of the Bay. For this fifth edition of the long-running Pinellas showcase, 50 Florida-based writers and makers of books will be sharing their wares, providing an amazing opportunity for networking and communing with some of the areaäó»s ambitious and creative up-and-comers.

Kathleen Madigan–Saturday January 28
Madigan, a stalwart road warrior with a jaundiced eye focused on womenäó»s issues and pop culture, was ahead of the current wave of unrestrained women comics. In fact, megastar Amy Schumer has recently been accused of, ahem, borrowing some of her ideas.

Joe Turneräó»s Come and Gone–Multiple Performances through February 19.
With this production, American Stage completes the entirety of August Wilsonäó»s ten-play, Pulitzer-winning Century Cycle, aka The Pittsburgh Cycle. Joe Turner is set in a boarding house in the 1910s, where a cast of misfits unwind the long shadow of slavery.æ American Stage is also throwing a celebration January 29thæto commemorate the completion of the Cycle.

Gladys Knight–Monday, January 30
A living legend, Knightäó»s work with the Pips on Motown Records, and later with Curtis Mayfield, helped define American musicäó»s golden age. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996, holds seven Grammy awards, and at age 72 continues to tour and record relentlessly.
