Heidi Stavinga is an Alcohol Ink artist, living and working in Dunedin, Mastering such simple mediums as alcohol and ink she creates dynamic pieces that transform seemingly ordinary subjects into beautiful works of art. Stavinga began experimenting with alcohol inks over 7 years ago and has already been added to many private collections around the world. The process of alcohol and ink allows for a very fluid form of expression; literally and figuratively. Normally used in mostly abstract styles of work, Stavinga has mastered a way of creating very representational works. Her subjects include wildlife, marine life, still life, florals and abstracts. ” I love the challenge of creating an image out of abstract. It feels like a dance of pulling the ink off and adding more ink to create lines and forms on the paper ” Stavinga says. Oftentimes, she will be creating a piece and a recognizable subject will appear by happen- stance and develops a theme from there. Stavinga teaches privately out of her home studio, online and also hosts several workshops each year. Stavinga has shown in the Stirling Art Studios and Gallery, Dunedin Fine Art Center Art Harvest Festival, DFAC Glad Tidings Exhibition, DFAC Student, Member, Faculty Show and several Art Festivals in Florida.
