Through mural-sized ballpoint pen drawings, Modder creates immersive, allegorical spaces where striking Black female figures navigate real and imagined realms. Blending childhood wonder with critical reflection, her work explores themes of power, resilience, and transformation, with Black hair as a central, dynamic character embodying strength and resistance. Sam Modder
Sam Modder is a globe-spanning talent with roots in Nigeria and Sri Lanka, a childhood in Sri Lanka, and a creative base in Tampa, Florida. A graduate of Dartmouth College (BA in Studio Art and Engineering, 2017) and Washington University in St. Louis (MFA, 2022), Sam blends art and innovation in ways that challenge and inspire.
