Hello Fellow Artist,
It’s now only two days left until my “Journey To Freedom” Auditions. I am just bursting inside about what I anticipate will take place this Saturday May 18th.
It’s my pleasure to introduce the percussionist that will be playing for the auditions.
Julian Douglas is a percussionist, producer, and composer of contemporary world music. Raised by a pianist, Julian’s childhood was an immersive education in the many rhythms of music. Though he has studied musical traditions from Europe, the African diaspora, Asia, and the Middle East, his focus has been on the creation of new music that seeks to honor the brilliance and beauty of the world’s traditions while pursuing opportunities for innovation. Julian co-founded the avant-garde world percussion ensemble Rhythm Quest, whose debut CD Excursion earned a 4-star review from Modern Drummer magazine. The group has given performances and workshops at universities and colleges all over the Eastern U.S., including New York, University of Southern Illinois, Earlham College, and the Ethnomusicology Department at Indiana University. Julian has co-created with many artists and companies, including Kyle Quass’s Jazz Ensemble, Organic Theory; The Windfall Modern Dance Company; a capella world vocal quartet, Vida; and served as part of the rhythm section for Blue Note recording artist Greg Osby. Julian is a Sarasota FL Based Artist.
I am super excited to have Julian come in all the way from Sarasota to bring in that musical vibe we’ll need in order to connect and flow through the auditions.
