Soon Sting will be performing with some of Tampa Bay’s best classical musicians at the Mahaffey Theater.
On Dec. 9, the former Police frontman will headline a gala concert titled “An Intimate Evening with The Florida Orchestra and Sting.”æ The 66-year-old pop icon joins a three-piece band (not that one; another one) and the accompaniment of The Florida Orchestra, under the baton of TFO Director Michael Francis.

äóìSting is not just a rock star,” he adds. “Heäó»s a deep, comprehensive artist who is constantly re-examining the world around him. Not only is Sting involved in rock, pop, jazz, and world music, but he loves and supports the classical world.äó
The TFO press statement says to expect 90 minutes of the 16-time Grammy winneräó»s most celebrated hits re-imagined and arranged for an orchestra, including “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic,” “Englishman In New York,” “Roxanne,” “Every Breath You Take”æand “Fields Of Gold.”
Tickets for the 50th Anniversary Gala will costæ$75, $100, $150, $250 and $375 and go on sale to Florida Orchestra subscribers on Mon., Sept 25; to general public Oct 2. All proceeds will go to the Orchestra’s performances and education efforts, which include community programs and free public concerts throughout Tampa Bay.
