Sculptural Installations
Over the weekend I was commissioned to create one of my installations in someones home. Any chance I get to put up an installation I absolutely love because its not everyday that someone has 15 feet worth of wall space available to work with! The way I work on my sculptural wooden installations is very similar if not exactly like the process of my collages. I first start with a large sheet of wood and then cut several (usually hundreds) of smaller shapes and sand them to a nice smooth finish. With a finial composition in mind, I then begin to arrange the pieces in layers and attach them to the wall. I use aluminum rod between the two wooden shapes. Finally, I paint the piece, which is the only step different then my collage work as that step is done before the cutting of the paper.
Below are images of my process and finished piece.
