CNN shares a range of opportunities including how to volunteer for MLK Day of Service projects, how to find on-demand volunteer opportunities accessible to anyone, and free downloadable lesson plans for K-12. Find the details here.

As well, CNN reports that The Smithsonian Institution and Library of Congress are looking for volunteers to digitally transcribe historical documents using your home computer, including documentation of African American history and women struggling for the right to – to make these materials available to the public and accessible for people with vision impairments.

January 17 from 7-9 pm
– the acclaimed Theatre of War ensemble present a free dramatic reading of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s The Drum Major Instinct – a powerful, cautionary sermon about the impulse in all humans to be first.

The performance is for diverse audiences, with the goal of generating powerful dialogue about racism, inequality and social justice, fostering compassion, understanding and positive action. The reading is accompanied by a choir of diverse singers from St. Louis, Missouri and New York City, as heard in the video above. You can RSVP here.
