How I started as an artist.
I am excited to be selected as one of the grant recipients and want to begin with an introduction. Originally from Miami I have called Pinellas County my home over 35 years. I began to develop my love for art and creating while attending Dixie Hollins High School. I was in the commercial art program and learned many skills such as airbrushing. I developed my hustle back then and sold airbrushed clothing to classmates and friends.
Soon after graduating high school I took a class at Dixie Hollins Adult Education Center and learned how to weld. The seeds were planted for my future as an entrepreneur and metal sculptor. I continued my education at St. Petersburg Junior College and and filled up my schedule with as many art classes as I could. I sold my first painting at my student art show. I finally transferred to the University of South Florida and continued to pursue a Bachelors in Fine Arts with a focus on painting and sculpture where I graduated in 1999. To be continued….
