The numbers are staggering. With a combined total of nearly $2.75 billion in damage, Hurricanes Helene and Milton have drastically upended nearly every facet of our lives.
- Destroyed properties: Over 700 properties were destroyed in Pinellas County, and will either be demolished or rebuilt.
- Major damage: Nearly 19,000 properties sustained major damage
- All told, over 40,000 homes in Pinellas County were damaged by the storms.
However, this doesn’t tell the entire story. Artist studios were flooded throughout the county, destroying artworks and materials. Cultural institutions were forced to close for extended periods of time while networks and power were restored.
The ripple effects will be felt for some time to come, and we understand how challenging it can be to pick up the pieces and carry on. We are now in recovery mode, and Creative Pinellas – along with our County partners – is working together to determine recovery funding options, as well as assess the cultural community’s readiness to weather future storms.
The 2024 Post-Hurricanes Cultural Impact Survey is designed to determine financial impacts as well as help plan for the future, and we hope you will join in this effort by completing the survey at the link below. Once the results are compiled and the data analysis is complete, we’ll be sure to share this information publicly.
Thank you in advance for your time, and thank you always for your valuable contribution to making Pinellas County the place we all love to live, create, and work in.
