Coffee Filters – Fine Art
I am interested in experimenting and adding other materials under the gamut of fiber/ textiles that aren’t considered a alert of that medium. These materials have some do the similar qualities. One such material is Chemex Coffee Filters. I use them on a daily basis to make my coffee and have been collecting used filters for a while now. They are either circular or rectangular, thin and off white or light sand in color. They are very porous, they absorb easily and they stain easy. Since I am using used coffee filters, I like the stains that are sustained from their primary function.
For the Emerging Artist show, I am making an installation with these filters, hung from the ceiling, cascading down. Each filter is marked with markers, keeping the stains in mind. The stains give a direction for the drawing and the result is a multi colored pattern.
