SpaceBalls with Daphne Zuniga äóñ Friday, April 28
Thereäó»s never a bad time to see Mel Brooksäó» screwball riff on Star Wars (though the amazing job Disney is doing revamping the source material makes it relevant all over again). But a special guest makes this screening even more worthwhile – Daphne Zuniga, who played Leia analogue Princess Vespa in the comedy classic. Zuniga is in town screening her latest feature, Those Left Behind, as part of the Sunscreen Film Festival (see below).

If you long for a little bit of Hollywood glitter now that film production in Florida has more or less shut down, this is one of your best opportunities. Sunscreen is a small fest, but itäó»s starting to attract some star power, and the party comes with a full-fledged red carpet where you can strut your stuff.

This is the kind of intimate, hidden gem you can only find in Pinellas. Chris Hillman was a founding member of the Byrds and member of The Flying Burrito Brothers, both seminal to the development of country rock äóñ and here he is, playing in a literal living room in Kenwood. Pedersen and Jorgensen were Hillmanäó»s bandmates in the Desert Rose Band starting in the late 1980s, making this a rare appearance of that groupäó»s core trio.

For the night people, this show features art from up-and-comers like Kristin Northup and Kelli Tanner, with 20% of proceeds benefiting Planned Parenthood. Accompanied by performances from edgy musicians including Betty Dawl and Ari Chi.

Sheryl Crow äóñ Sunday, April 30
As someone who dealt with äóìAll I Wanna Doäó on the car radio almost non-stop during the nineties, I have to say äóñ it was hard to imagine then that Sheryl Crow would become her generationäó»s headline standard-bearer for roots music. But sheäó»s gone on to work with everyone from the Dixie Chicks to Steve Earle to Willie Nelson, and sheäó»s not quitting anytime soon. If you havenäó»t yet, itäó»s high time to forgive her for the crime äóñ such as it is äóñ of co-writing a song so catchy that itäó»s probably now stuck in your head just because you read the title.
