St. Pete Second Saturday Art Walk äóñ Saturday, May 12th

The Second Saturday Art Walk is a regular event, and normally itäó»d be in our äóìHonorable Mentionsäó section. But this monthäó»s event features such a plethora of interesting art openings and exhibits that we wanted to push you just a liiiiiittle bit harder. Tampa International Fringe Festival äóñ Thursday May 11th äóñ Sunday May 14th

This first installment of Tampaäó»s new performance festival will include comedy, theatre, musical performances, and more, all with an edge. Itäó»s modeled on dozens of äóìfringe festivalsäó from New York to, most famously, Edinburgh, Scotland. Hopefully Tampaäó»s, too, will become a great place to develop and spot new and exciting talent.

Worth crossing the bridge, big-time.

$5-13 per event. Passes also available.

Dominique Labauvie in Conversation äóñ Thursday, May 18th

Labauvieäó»s installation/sculptures are on display at the MFA through July 2nd, and this is your chance to hear him talk about them, in conversation with MFA curator Katherine Pill. Though originally from France, Labauvie has lived in Tampa for nearly two decades, so this has the air of a hometown celebration, too.

A Cavalcade of Stories

On top of the jam-packed Art Walk, this week features a fistful of literary events that are all worth checking out. Wordier Than Thou is going back-to-back, with a Storytelling Open Mic on Tuesday the 16th followed by a Short Story Club meetup on Wednesday the 17th. Keep St. Pete Lit is also hosting its regular Open Mic on May 17th, and Black Crow Coffee has its Poetry Open Mic ξon Thursday the 18th.

Itäó»s too much. We know. Weäó»re sorry. Youäó»ll survive, somehow.

 

Mathew Graybil at the Chopin Project

Pianist Mathew Graybil has been praised as äóìexceptionaläó by the New Yorker, and this program (somehow Dali-inspired) sounds mind-expanding: Scarlatti, Beethovin, Chopin, Wagner, and Liszt.
