Supporting local businesses keeps money in our County, and that can be particularly vital for creative types. Stores everywhere will be offering deals, but there are two particularly notable events in Pinellas äóñ the Pierce Street Market in Clearwater, and the clutch of independent shops at the Sundial in St. Pete, to be followed by snow, lights, and carolers.

David Crosby and Friends–Sunday, November 27
David Crosbyäó»s ethereal soprano was a defining voice of an era that still casts a long shadow in America äóñ and heäó»s just released a new album, Lighthouse, that proves heäó»s as relevant as ever. His current tour features a new lineup of backing musicians, including Michael League, Becca Stevens, and Michelle Willis. Theyäó»ll perform some of Crosbyäó»s defining hits, along with new material.

Keith Haring: Radiant Child–Thursday and Friday, December 1æ- 2
Radiant Child is an hour long solo performance by Chad Jacobs, revealing the creative process and personal travails of one of the most simultaneously subversive and successful visual artists of all time. Haring, like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Futura 2000, came from the graffiti movement of New York City, and tackled everything from AIDS awareness to the crack epidemic in his work. Though he died of AIDS at only 31 years old, his influence has provenæenduring.
A portion of proceeds benefit Metropolitan Charities of Pinellasäó» HIV/AIDS programs.

St. Pete College Faculty Exhibit–Through December
Any area that can call itself a cultural hub owes a lot to its local schools and teachers, and in Pinellas, St. Petersburg College has been fueling the creative fire for decades. This exhibit showcases painting, ceramics, and photographs by SPC faculty including Linda Berghoff, Michele Levin, and many others. Itäó»s a great chance to learn more about some of our finest local creators äóñ who also happen to regularly teach courses for learners of all ages.
At the same time, you can catch a selection of watercolors and prints by Abraham Rattner, a contemporary of Pablo Picasso whose stepson helped found the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art.

Sage Francis–Thursday December 1
2001 seems like an awfully long time ago, but it probably shouldnäó»t. It was on October 11, 2001 that Miami-born Sage Francis dropped äóìMakeshift Patriot,äó a prescient critique of knee-jerk American responses to terrorism. Since then, heäó»s had a journeymanäó»s career as a mostly-independent rapper, particularly marked by a certain frail introspection thatäó»s now part of the mainstream. This is a great chance to see him in an intimate venue, alongside Dunedinäó»s own Jon Ditty and DiViNCi of Orlandoäó»s Solillaquists of Sound.
