Florida has a dry season (late October through April) and a wet season (May through early October). These seasonal contrasts are significant to plein-air drawing and painting in the type of work and style of work.
Dry season work, also over Florida’s short winter, lends itself to form studies. For example, a silverpoint drawing of a dry wetland area, a cypress plain (below).
I worked on Mitigation Area, Dry Season, off an on over four years, gradually building up the tone values of silverpoint.
Wet season brings clouds, rains (sometimes even while you work) and lends itself to more atmospheric studies (below).
