Nathan Beard

From repetitive curvatures to intricate mandala-like illustrations to placid nature scenes, Nathan Beard’s abstract and expressionistic works have one intention in common: to convey fleeting moments in time.

The St. Petersburg-based painter and illustrator employs a deliberate, discrete approach to each piece as well as well his choices in materials and surfaces— he communicates through texture, color, shapes, patterns and his finely tuned execution of it all.

Simultaneously approachable and cerebral, Beard says he’s inspired by the density and variety of Floridian flora, and, more conceptually, what he perceives as interweaving layers and their metaphorical application to memory and moments.

In short, Beard creates art to elicit “a meditative pause,” and, likewise, his works impel the viewer to get lost in speculation.

The University of Colorado has a studio in St. Petersburg, and he’s represented by ARTicles Gallery. He also assists ARTicles owner Leslie Curran curate works in the Grand Central District of St. Petersburg. To see a gallery of Beard’s works, visit
