SUMMARY:Source of All Hair\, Wearer of All Socks
DESCRIPTION:Source of All Hair\, Wearer of All Socks has been extended through April 27\, to allow more guests to enjoy and experience the exhibition.\nSource of All Hair\, Wearer of All Socks\, an exhibition by Nigerian Sri Lankan artist Sam Modder\, invites viewers into a world shaped by striking\, larger-than-life Black female figures in both real and imagined realms. Modder\, now living in Tampa\, Florida\, creates powerful allegorical spaces through digitally manipulated\, mural-sized ballpoint pen drawings. In her most recent series\, these installations\, inspired by a Black woman’s fairytale\, blend childhood wonder with critical reflection\, tackling themes of power\, exploitation\, and resilience. Black hair emerges as a central character\, pushing the narrative forward with soft curls and defiant shapes\, embodying resistance and strength. Modder’s speculative worlds decenter broken realities to reimagine and critique oppressive structures. As her work towers above\, she invites viewers to step back into a space of childhood\, wonder\, and possibility—and\, in the best of ways\, to feel small\, open\, and ready to hear one more story. \n \n \n \n \n \n Sam Modder\n \n Posted on December 13\, 2024 by Creative Pinellas \n Sam Modder is a globe-spanning talent with roots in Nigeria and Sri Lanka\, a childhood in Sri Lanka\, and a creative base in Tampa\, Florida. A graduate of Dartmouth College (BA in Studio Art and Engineering\, 2017) and Washington University in St. Louis (MFA\, 2022)\, Sam blends art and innovation in ways that challenge and… Read More \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Source of All Hair\, Wearer of All Socks Opening Reception\n \n Posted on December 12\, 2024 by Creative Pinellas \n Join us for the opening reception of Source of All Hair\, Wearer of All Socks\, an extraordinary exhibition by Nigerian Sri Lankan artist Sam Modder.
