Their stories remind us of our potential to impact positive change.” \nThe esteemed lawyers being featured in the exhibit include: \n\nJames Weldon Johnson – the first Black person admitted to The Florida Bar through an individual examination who also wrote the hymn “Lift Every Voice and Sing” in 1900 that became referred to as the Black national anthem\nAnna Brenner Meyers – the founding member and first president of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers\nJudge Mario Goderich – the first president of the Cuban American Bar Association and the first Hispanic/Cuban American to hold all of his judicial posts\nLarry D. Learning from that\, we wanted to give our community a further opportunity to share and remember those they loved and lost. \nDuring our discussions\, we were reminded that a dear friend of ours\, artist\, and arts administrator Suzanne Ruley\, had left behind a tremendous amount of creative work that her husband Matt discovered after she passed away from Covid. We recognized that many people were having similar experiences\, and we felt it would be healing for them to join with us to share their discoveries in an exhibit also featuring Suzanne’s work. \nEXHIBITION SPONSORS \nSUNCOAST HOSPICE FOUNDATION a member of Empath Health \nVisit St. Pete/Clearwater \nPinellas County\, FL \nThe State of Florida and Division of Cultural Affairs \nCOMMUNITY PARTNERS \nEmpath Health \nCentral Pinellas Chamber of Commerce \nGreater Seminole Area Chamber of Commerce \nSt. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce \nSafety Harbor Chamber of Commerce \n

SUMMARY:COVID Ribbon Memorial
DESCRIPTION: \n \nCreative Pinellas is proud to host the Covid Ribbon Memorial in its courtyard at the Pinewood Cultural Park. The memorial\, which opened on July 24th\, is a sculptural art installation comprised of a long line of colorful ribbons with each ribbon representing one person who has died in Florida due to COVID-19. The community is invited to visit during park hours 7am to 5pm and add a name to the memorial. \nCathy Tobias\, a photographer and visual artist conceptualized the project to honor lives lost in a tangible\, visual way and offer people a way to remember and mourn loved ones. She started the project in November of 2020 and enlisted a team of volunteers to help tie ribbons when the number of deaths was 16\,000. The memorial now has over 36\,000 ribbons and is as long as three football fields. \nThe memorial first appeared on Anna Maria Island and was also on display at the Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg. Creative Pinellas will be the third location to host the installation. Creator Cathy Tobias plans to keep the project going and move the memorial to additional locations in the area giving people a physical space to grieve\, share their stories and think about the magnitude of this tragedy. \nPast Events\nThursday\, September 30th @ 6-8pm\n \n \n \n \n \n COVID Ribbon Memorial Re-Dedication Event\n \n Posted on September 20\, 2021 by Danny Olda \n September 30th – 6-8pm – Creative Pinellas invites you the re-dedication of the COVID Ribbon Memorial. SUMMARY:Expanding Waters
DESCRIPTION:Continuing exploration of water\, Carol Mickett & Robert Stackhouse Expanding Waters Exhibition created a story in 2 and 3 dimensions about the current state of our waters. Waters are rising and getting warmer. They fuel the intensification of hurricanes and the flooding of our lands. Mickett and Stackhouse’s paintings and large-scale installation\, Breath of Influence\, shed light on the issue of climate change and offer ways to mitigate the warming and\, hence\, expansion of our waters. In addition to the visual art\, Expanding Waters provided a space for performances\, scientific discussion\, and social engagement. \nExpanding Waters explored ways to mitigate the warming of our waters and atmosphere by the reduction of heat trapping CO2. The show’s participants found many honorific images of trees\, specifically The Mangrove and The Live Oak. These ubiquitous trees are key absorbers of CO2 and\, hence\, essential to reducing our carbon footprint. Planting trees is one way we\, in our lives\, can help mitigate the warming of our waters. \nLink to Carol Mickett & Robert Stackhouse \n
