SUMMARY:IMAGINE BLACKNESS Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Join us for IMAGINE BLACKNESS: ALTERNATE REALITIES AND COLLECTIVE DREAMING\, a collaborative exploration of Blackness and Black representation through AI-generated images created by artist\, McArthur Freeman II\, and sociologist\, Elizabeth Hordge-Freeman.\nFrom a botanical paradise laden with richly hued figures to an otherworldly futuristic sci-fi cosmos\, this exhibition invites viewers to engage in the act of collective dreaming as a social intervention\, which moves beyond the reality of the present world to (re)-imagine and discover new ways of seeing and being. Inspired by Black speculative fiction and Afro-Futurism\, the project offers viewers interactive opportunities to question\, inspire\, and escape by engaging the viewers’ own imaginations in the co-construction of the future and alternate worlds. \n\nFeatured Artists\n \n \n \n \n \n McArthur Freeman\n \n Posted on December 21\, 2022 by Creative Pinellas \n McArthur Freeman II is a visual artist and designer whose work explores hybridity and the construction of identity. SUMMARY:Path to Unity
DESCRIPTION:Creative Pinellas is pleased to be hosting The Florida Bar’s Path to Unity Project from November 30 – December 15\, 2022. Path to Unity is a traveling exhibit sponsored by the Florida Bar ‘s Standing Committee on Diversity and Inclusion\, honoring attorneys in Florida who exemplify the values for The Florida Bar’s mission for equality.\n“This program is a celebration of diverse attorneys who are each trailblazers in their own right\,” Starlett Massey and Kyleen Hinkle\, co-chairs of the Pinellas County Path to Unity committee\, said in a prepared statement. “It is designed to educate lawyers and non-lawyers alike about our country’s civil rights movement. Each of these attorneys both lived and influenced the modern civil rights movement. Their stories remind us of our potential to impact positive change.” \nThe esteemed lawyers being featured in the exhibit include: \n\nJames Weldon Johnson – the first Black person admitted to The Florida Bar through an individual examination who also wrote the hymn “Lift Every Voice and Sing” in 1900 that became referred to as the Black national anthem\nAnna Brenner Meyers – the founding member and first president of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers\nJudge Mario Goderich – the first president of the Cuban American Bar Association and the first Hispanic/Cuban American to hold all of his judicial posts\nLarry D. Smith – a tireless advocate for the LGBTQ community and the first openly gay member to serve on the Supreme Court Commission of Florida\nJames Kracht – a blind and fierce advocate for blind lawyers in Florida and past president of the Florida Council for the Blind\, who helped organize The Florida Bar’s first CLE seminar about lawyers with disabilities\n\n\n \n \n \n \n Anna Brenner Meyers – Painting by Iman Zadrozny\, Ringling College of Art & Design\n \n \n \n \n \n James Weldon Johnson – Painting by Nicholas R. Mote\, Maryland Institute College of Art\n \n \n \n \n \n James “Jim” Kracht – Painting by Brooke Brogan\, Ringling College of Art & Design\n \n \n \n \n \n Larry Smith – Painting by Oliver Stephenson\, Ringling College of Art & Design\n \n \n \n \n \n Judge Mario Goderich – Painting by Kevin Cuellar\, Ringling College of Art & Design\n \n \n\nClick here to learn more about the traveling exhibition\n \nWe are so excited to work with the committee and to host this exhibit at the gallery at Creative Pinellas\,” said Barbara St. Clair\, Creative Pinellas CEO. “Art has a unique way of connecting ideas and emotions\, of telling stories in ways that create an opportunity for people to learn things they didn’t know and see things in new ways. In this case\, five amazing portraits\, of five powerful leaders\, who changed the world in positive ways.”\nCreative Pinellas is also offering a Continuing Legal Education course that aligns with the exhibit on Thursday December 8\, 2022\, from 3-5pm featuring Larry D. Smith\, the only living lawyer to be honored with a Path to Unity portrait. For more information and to register for the CLE program\, please visit REGISTER HERE

Learning from that\, we wanted to give our community a further opportunity to share and remember those they loved and lost. \nDuring our discussions\, we were reminded that a dear friend of ours\, artist\, and arts administrator Suzanne Ruley\, had left behind a tremendous amount of creative work that her husband Matt discovered after she passed away from Covid. We recognized that many people were having similar experiences\, and we felt it would be healing for them to join with us to share their discoveries in an exhibit also featuring Suzanne’s work. \nEXHIBITION SPONSORS \nSUNCOAST HOSPICE FOUNDATION a member of Empath Health \nVisit St. Pete/Clearwater \nPinellas County\, FL \nThe State of Florida and Division of Cultural Affairs \nCOMMUNITY PARTNERS \nEmpath Health \nCentral Pinellas Chamber of Commerce \nGreater Seminole Area Chamber of Commerce \nSt. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce \nSafety Harbor Chamber of Commerce \n
