At the age of 26, Dustin Miller of Dunedin began experimenting with metal to create contemporary sculptures and began Abstract Metal Design. With a background in graphic and web design, Miller uses those skills to create renderings of his pieces. Miller’s pieces are inspired by the basic natural elements: earth, fire, water and air. He has the ability to take the hard surfaces of metal and mold them into beautiful, free-flowing forms. He incorporates color, movement and texture in his contemporary sculptures. Miller explains that he chooses metal as his medium, because, “it offers endless possibilities. It’s extremely durable and flexible. When specific techniques are applied with shape, textures and colors, it’s hard to beat.” His sculptures range from tabletop pieces to eight foot tall outdoor pieces. Each sculpture is one-of-a-kind.
Miller has been commissioned by private collectors and commercial companies alike. In fact in 2015, Ryan Hughes Design Build commissioned Miller to create a contemporary stainless steel sculpture. Miller’s commissioned piece, Orb Sculpture, was an HGTV Outdoor Award winning design. Miller’s work can be found throughout the United States in private residences, hotels, apartment complexes, businesses and public spaces. Most recently, Miller’s work was shown in the Glad Tidings Invitational Exhibition at the Dunedin Fine Art Center, where his sculptures can also be viewed in the DFAC gallery shop.
