Pinellas County Artists & Arts Business Micro-Grants

through the process.

Pinellas County has emergency CARES relief funds available to help people in the creative community deal with immediate financial needs as a result of the hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Pinellas CARES Artist & Arts Business Micro-Grants for individual artists living in Pinellas County and art businesses located in Pinellas County start at $1,000 and are available for artists and arts businesses who made at least $4,250 in revenue (sales before any expenses) in 2019.

Both artists and arts businesses can apply for the Arts Micro-Grant

If you showed your taxable income from the sale, creation, or performance of your art on your personal income tax – you will be considered an individual artist.

If you showed your taxable income from the sale, creation or performance of your art as a sole proprietor or other business schedule and you are registered with Florida Sunbiz, – you will be considered an arts business.

In either case, the grant amount is the same.

Artists and Arts Business Micro Grants Details

The purpose of this CARES Micro-Grant is to make it possible for people working in the creative industry to access CARES grant funds, and so has specifically been designed to make it easier for artists and arts businesses to be able to apply and receive funds.   

For this grant funds are available:

  • For arts businesses of all genres who earn money from the creation, sale, performance or practice of their art and who report their taxes as a business, and are registered with Florida Sunbiz
  • For artists of all genres who earn money from their creation, sale, performance or practice of their art, but have not established themselves as a formal business
  • For artists who work out of their home
  • For web-based arts businesses (as long as the business owner lives in Pinellas County.)
  • For bricks and mortar arts businesses, whether it is a full-time, shared space, regular booth, etc.

Even if you don’t think of yourself as a business, if you make some or all of your living as an artist, we do!  (Especially for this grant)

Even if you have not been eligible for CARES Grants in the past, don’t count yourself out.  This grant was purposefully designed to get funds to people and businesses who have not been able to qualify in the past.

About the grant funds

This Pinellas Cares Micro-Grant: Provides a cash award on a sliding scale based on annual revenue (money earned from work as an artist before expenses). See sliding scale below.

Funds can be used to reimburse business loses caused by the required closures due to COVID-19.

  • Approved costs include employee wages (including wages that you pay yourself), payments to vendors (for supplies, equipment, services, etc.), payment for rent or other business and operating expenses.
  • Funds may not be used to cover costs already paid by insurance or by another federal program.

Applicants for this grant will need to:

  • Show taxable income from their creative work (personal income tax form OK.)
  • Show business loses due to COVID-19 and may do so through a variety of means, including cancellation of shows, closure of galleries, loss of gig income, etc.
  • Have business losses that are greater than the amount of the grant.
