The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art in downtown St. Petersburg is seeking a Visual Arts Instructor for its 2018 summer camp.

This is a two-week, contract position for the following dates: June 25-29, 2018 and July 9-13, 2018.  The working hours are from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • provide instruction to children ages 6 to 11
  • create a fun, playful and welcoming atmosphere
  • lead all arts and craft sessions with age-appropriate lessons
  • inventory classroom supplies and compile requests for needed supplies in a timely manner
  • ensure classroom is set up and ready with supplies and equipment
  • prepare lesson outlines at least one week prior to camp start date
  • supervise art studio/classroom and lead assistant volunteers
  • participate in studio set-up at the beginning of camp and clean-up at the end


  • a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts or a related discipline
  • experience teaching art to children in a K-5 classroom, museum or art studio
  • knowledge of and experience with a variety of art materials and processes
  • aptitude and passion for creativity and arts education
  • knowledge of Western and Native American art preferred
  • applicants must pass a Level II background check

$1,200.00 for the 2 week contract
