Transporting viewers to otherworldly yet familiar settings, Weinzettle uses drawing, painting and collage as his media of choice. His subjects range from the geographical to intimate as he depicts landscapes, streetscapes, portraits and still lifes. The Tarpon Springs-based artist often works from direct observation en plein air but creates even more from imagination or photo references. Also a drawing instructor, Weinzettle has strived to master a wide range of techniques, including metalpoint, charcoal graphite, ink and natural red chalk. Themes in his works include African history and culture — inspired by his many travels. Weinzettle completed his MFA with a historical painting and lithography project “African-led Slave Rebellions in the United States, Haiti and Jamaica.”
